Artist's Comments

The mystic whale of the horn is like the genie of the lamp. However, you must play the horn really well to get him to appear to grant you wishes.

Featuring Charlie the cat from my 25 expressions sheet.
The colors on this were tricky. The "light source" from behind is many different colors and the light from the horn is cyan.

THANKS everyone! A DD! Thanks for making this the most popular piece in my gallery. I'm glad everyone likes it so much.

Whale on the Horn by =Tsuchan is a charming piece with two lovely characters and vibrant colors. Not only is it an interesting concept and spin on the old 'genie in the bottle' tale, the expressions and composition really shine with this one. Well done! (Featured by ^savagebinn)

It's rainboooow! :boogie:

It's funny because I originally was just going to use the light source from the horn (greenish) and make the background dark. I was trying to put some textures in to see how they looked and had a rainbow-ish one. It looked pretty good, but was kind of pixely and busy, so I painted one digitally that was smooth, but kept the rainbow colors.

So the color combo kind of evolved as I was working on it.

Thanks! The magic of digital art is that you don't need a color scheme that's set in stone! :ninja:

That is so beautiful! The light sources are totally blowing me away! (No pun intended.)

Play on, Charlie, play on.

Reminds me of the holophoner from Futurama. Tell him to play Grumpy Snail next!

:D I like it. I like that you muted the textures in the background, they were a little distracting. Now it matches the rest of the picture.

The whale's expression is priceless, by the way. :iconwhatbombplz:
